AT WHAT SOME OF OUR MEMBERS HAVE SAID ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE WITH KEEP
IREDELL CLEAN!
|
"Involvement
with KIC/KAB affords me the opportunity to work on a community,
grassroots level addressing such vitally important environmental
issues as clean air and clean water. It is imperative that we all
learn to become better environmental stewards to protect and preserve
our natural heritage and resources. Education will raise awareness
and lead to more sustainable development. KIC's main mission is
community education. Generally when people are better informed they
make better decisions and we all benefit.

"The
Keep Iredell Clean goals are closely related to my field of work
as Sanitation Superintendent for the City of Statesville. But beyond
that, I am personally concerned about our county's beautification
and keeping our streets, highways and communities clean."
Fred Morrison, City of Statesville
|
|
"We
are an integral part of the Earth and its natural systems. Only
when realizing ourselves as creatures of the Divine, recognizing
our role as caretakers, showing concern for our fellow creatures
and taking only that which is our equitable share, will we be successful
as a species."
John Robertson
|
|
"Back
when he was in the funnies, Walt Kelley's Pogo Possum once quipped,
'We know quite a lot about that, but most of it is wrong.' As a
society, we know a lot about environmentalism but much of it can
stand some tweaking. I've been with Keep America Beautiful affiliates
in Charlotte, Atlanta and now Iredell County since about 1981, mostly
in public information roles. When folks know right, they tend to
do right; that's part of KIC/KAB's job.
Stan Thompson

|
"I
believe that every citizen has a duty to protect the environment
for the next generation. As I drive around Iredell county I can't
help but notice the tremendous amount of trash that litters our
highways and waterways. Serving as a board member of KIC/KAB allows
me to participate in a movement that works to restore and preserve
the natural resources of our beautiful county."
Richard Lefevre, Mitchell Community College
|
|
"I
have a magnet on my refrigerator door which says
'We did
not inherit the earth from our fathers. We are borrowing it from
our children.'
I don't know who penned those words, but they constantly remind
me how important it is to protect our environment. The mission statement
of KIC/KAB includes the words, 'To protect natural resources and
heritage.' As a board member of this organization, I have the opportunity
to support and participate in activities that will help make this
possible."
Ann Kelly
|
|
"I
am a member of Keep Iredell Clean because I love to see clear streams
and rivers. More than anything, I am interested in a clean environment
and healthy air to breath.."
Victor Crosby
|
|
"I
am a member of KIC because there are many ways to preserve and enhance
our environment and our region. This organization helps to educate
the public and takes an active role on issues that are not considered
to be on the personal level, such as sustainable development, water
quality preservation, and air quality reduction methods."
Ron Smith
|
|
"I
am a part of KIC because I feel it is important that everyone consider
the choices we make in our daily lives and how these choices affect
the world around us. KIC is helping to keep environmental issues
in the spotlight. KIC is helping to educate the public, as well
as, helping to provide opportunities for citizens to have the resources
needed to make sound environmental discussions and to take action
on these decisions."
Nelson McCaskill
|
|
"As
an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist with ASMO, I like
to be involved in proactive programs and I feel that Keep Iredell
Clean / Keep America Beautiful is a proactive way to help our environment.
I am glad that KIC is part of the Hazardous Waste and Electronics
Collection programs."
Danny Yount

|
"As
a child, I loved building moss and twig fairy houses in the woods.
My mother taught me to love wild flowers, and early on I was intrigued
with American Indians and their love and respect for this earth
and nature. When KIC/KAB started, I felt a common bond of values
that were set forth and I wanted to be a part of such a positive,
good organization representing the goals I treasure."
Sue Walser

|
"Many
people think that protecting the environment is a nice thing to
do ... if you have the time. A recent phrase in Sierra Magazine
captures my feelings about KICs efforts to protect the environment.
What many people fail to understand is that 'we owe our very existence
to the environment, and that (if we fail to protect it) we are threatening
what gives us life.' If
you see me and other members of KIC picking up trash some Saturday
morning, how about stopping to help? Remember, please dont
litter and be sure to join Keep Iredell Clean."
James M. (Jim) Morrow, Mooresville
|
|
"I
am honored to be a part of an outstanding group of citizens that
care for and give so much to our community. Our world needs our
help and KIC is a good place to be a part of the answer. As the
recycling coordinator for Iredell County I appreciate the KIC board
and members for all of their support and hard work."
Carla Parks, Iredell County Recycling Coordinator
